Advocate Hemlata Chaudhary is a dynamic legal professional with over 20 years of experience, including more than 15 years of focused practice in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), particularly in Trademarks and Copyrights. Her career spans both government and private sectors, marked by significant roles such as Trade Mark Examiner and Hearing Officer at the Trade Marks Registry in Ahmedabad and Mumbai. In these capacities, she was entrusted with responsibilities as Section In-Charge for Opposition, Renewal, and Post-Registration, where she examined trademark applications, handled registrations and renewals, scrutinized evidence under statutory provisions, and oversaw opposition and rectification proceedings. During her tenure as a Hearing Officer, she adjudicated and passed more than 400 reasoned orders in contested opposition and rectification matters.

Before her tenure in government service, she practised independently as a Trademark Attorney, representing clients before the Trademark Registry and the erstwhile Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB). Her practice covered filing and prosecution of trademark, copyright, and design matters, handling oppositions, rectifications, enforcement actions, conducting clearance searches, drafting legal opinions, and advising on brand strategy and infringement disputes.

 

In addition to her professional engagements, Hemlata has contributed to legal academia as a visiting faculty member at several reputed law institutions, including the University School of Law, Government Commerce College, and other institutions in Nagpur and Ahmedabad. She holds an LL.B. (Hons.) and two LL.M. degrees—one in Environmental Law from RTM Nagpur University and another in Intellectual Property Rights from Gujarat University.
