R. K. Dewan & Co. was honoured to participate in the National Workshop on Advanced Legged Robotics (NWALR-2025), held in May 2025, at the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Auditorium, DRDO Complex, Pashan, Pune. The firm was represented by Mr. Manish Gupta (Group Leader, Patents) and Adv. Bhushan Walunj (Patent Attorney), who engaged with leading experts in robotics, defence, and academia.

Organized by the Indian Society of Systems for Science and Engineering (ISSE) in collaboration with the Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), [R&DE(E)], DRDO, and COEP Technological University. It served as a platform to explore state-of-the-art advancements in legged robotics particularly bipedal and quadrupedal systems with applications across defence, healthcare, domestic environments, space missions, and industrial automation.

A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of DRDO’s humanoid robot prototype. Designed to assist in high-risk military scenarios, the robot equipped with advanced actuators, sensors, and control systems allow it to perform complex tasks such as gripping, obstacle clearance, and movement across rugged terrain. This development, targeted for completion by 2027, reflects India’s growing focus on integrating robotics into national defence strategies.

During the workshop, RKD’s associates actively contributed to discussions on how intellectual property rights intersect with robotics innovation. They emphasized the critical importance of a well-structured IP framework to protect pioneering technologies and promote continued research and development in this rapidly evolving domain.

To commemorate World Intellectual Property Day 2025 and to promote awareness and capacity-building in the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), the ICAR Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT), Kochi, invited R. This year, over 100 representatives from the government and the electronics industry attended the IPC Standards Development meeting, and more than 400 B2B meetings were organized with international delegates.

On June 21st, R K Dewan & Co celebrated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm, bringing together our team members for a day dedicated to wellness and mindfulness. The event was a vibrant and rejuvenating experience, set against the backdrop of a beautiful sunset.

We were privileged to have Mr. Rajendra Bhujbal from the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute who led the session. Mr. Bhujbal’s extensive knowledge and serene guidance created a harmonious atmosphere, allowing everyone to fully immerse themselves in the practice of yoga.

The session commenced with a brief introduction to the significance of Yoga Day, followed by a meticulous demonstration of a series of asanas. Each pose was explained in detail, ensuring that participants of all skill levels could follow along and benefit from the practice. The session also included pranayama (breathing exercises) and concluded with a peaceful meditation, leaving everyone feeling refreshed and centered.

FICCI commemorated the “World IP Day 2024” with a run up event on WIPO’s theme for this year’s IP Day celebrations; ‘IP and the SDGs: Building Our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity’ on April 24th, 2024 in New Delhi.

The Students of Deccan Education Society’s Navalmal Firodia Law College, Pune (India) were addressed in a 2 hour session by Dr Mohan Dewan, Dr Mohan Dewan, on the topic “Legal Approach in Drugs Patenting Regime” on 10th January 2015, during the college organized ‘National Seminar on Medico-Legal Aspects of Protection of Life in Patenting Regime & National Judgment Analysis Competition.’ Once again, it was a highly interactive, knowledgeable & successful session.

RKD was the Delegate Kit Sponsor at the World IP Forum held in New Delhi from 10 – 12 January, 2015. Dr Mohan Dewan spoke on “Significant patent judgments in India in 2014” as the key note speaker in the plenary session. He also moderated a session on “Significant changes in IP world for IT & Telecom” on the last day.

Dr Mohan Dewan, conducted an intensive 2 day course on ‘Patenting Filing & Processing, Patent Writing’ at the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM) in Nagpur (India) on 7 & 8 January, 2015. RGNIIPM is a Central Government Organization under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. All of Dr Dewan’s sessions were very well received by the participants comprising corporates, advocates and representatives from research & development organizations & universities. The questions did not stop coming from the keen attendees right from morning even through the usually drowsy post-lunch time (!) and onto and beyond the close of session time.

Mr Paritosh Goyal and Advocate Sahil Ahuja represented R K Dewan & Co at the Global Investors Summit (GIS) at Brilliant Convention Center, Indore, India held from 8-10 October, 2014. This convention was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also several of India’s top industrialists in order to pledge and promote investment in the state of Madhya Pradesh. RKD used this opportunity to create awareness about IP amongst various business and brand owners.

Dr Mohan Dewan was the Chairman of LITCON (Conference for IP Litigation) this year and also spoke on “Devising Winning Strategies for Protection and Enforcement of your IPR” at Taj Connemara, Chennai, India on 6th December, 2014.

RKD had organized a seminar at their Pune office auditorium where the EPO Director Dr. Dieter Tzschoppe talked on “Patentability in Respect of Patent Activities at the EPO” on 25th November, 2014. The talk was attended by members of industry and patent attorneys.

Dr Mohan Dewan, Dr Niti Dewan, Advocate Nirbhay Bhardwaj and Advocate Tushar Shrikhande represented R K Dewan & Co at the INDIA-US TECHNOLOGY SUMMIT at Delhi-NCR, India from 18th to 22nd November, 2014. RKD was also a sponsor and Dr Dewan spoke at the event on 20th November in the afternoon session.

RKD was a GOLD sponsor at the INTA Leadership meeting this year and also the Lanyard sponsor. Dr Niti Dewan (Government Officials Training & Education Committee) and Ms Disha Dewan (Bulletin Committee) attended the conference at Phoenix, Arizona, USA held from 11th to 15th November, 2014.

Dr. Niti Dewan and other team members from R K Dewan & Co will be attending the 63rd Council Meeting of APPA (Asian Patent Attorney Association) at Penang, Malaysia from 8th to 11th November 2014.

Ms. Disha Dewan attended the FICPI Conference in Barcelona, Spain held between 5-8 November, 2014. With plenty of time to network between excellent technical sessions and during specially organized tours to visit ‘Sagrada Familia’ and ‘Cavas Codorniu’, this conference afforded a good opportunity to meet new & old colleagues alike, and discuss latest IP developments.

Dr. Mohan Dewan was a Key Note Speaker, kicking off the 3rd International Conference and Exhibition on Biowaivers and Biosimilars in Hyderabad on 27-29 October 2014. The main theme of the conference was “Current Challenges and Opportunities in Cost Effective and Affordable Biosimilars.”

Dr. Mohan Dewan also spoke on the topic “The Positive Role of Intellectual Property in the Creation of Cost Effective and Affordable Biosimilars.”

RKD was a sponsor at the London IP Summit this year, held at the London Stock Exchange between 13-14 October, 2014. Dr Mohan Dewan and Dr Niti Dewan represented RKD at the event.

Disha Dewan attended the 28th Annual Conference of MARQUES at Copenhagen, Denmark from 23rd to 26th September, 2014.

RKD was represented by Dr Mohan Dewan & Dr Niti Dewan at the 8th Annual Global Patent Congress at Copenhagen, Denmark held from 22-24 September, 2014. Dr Mohan Dewan also spoke at the conference on “Winning Strategies for Patent Prosecution & Litigation in India” which was followed by a lively question & answer session.

Dr Niti Dewan represented RKD at GOAL’s Global IP Conference and Exhibition at Dubai, UAE held from 2-3 September, 2014.

The 136th INTA Annual Meeting was held in Hong Kong from 9th – 14th May, 2014. One of the world’s largest and most attended trademark events, this conference offers endless opportunities for education and networking.

RKD was represented this year by Dr Mohan Dewan (INTA Academic Committee), Dr Niti Dewan (INTA Government Officials Education & Training Committee), Ms Disha Dewan (INTA Bulletin Committee), Advocate Tushar Shrikhande & Advocate Sahil Ahuja. The team looked forward to meeting with new and current clients and associates.

Like last year, RKD also sponsored the Women’s Power Breakfast Programme this year and Dr Niti Dewan & Ms Disha Dewan attended the same.

Dr Mohan Dewan & Dr Niti Dewan visited Beijing between 6-12 April, 2014 and met with Chinese colleagues and associates, in order to discuss the latest developments in IP in India & China and to further strengthen IP ties between the two countries to enable stronger IP protection and enforcement therein.

Dr Mohan Dewan and Dr Niti Dewan were invited to speak at the Global IP Conference in Hyderabad India between 16-18 January, 2014. Dr Mohan Dewan addressed the audience in the Plenary sessions on important patent issues in India and also spoke in the roundtable session on the ‘Madrid Protocol for International Trade Mark Protection’. Dr Niti Dewan was a speaker in the ‘Freedom to Operate (FTO) Analysis’ roundtable session where she addressed issues regarding the intricacies and challenges of FTO searches with tips to overcome them.

The INTA Leadership Meeting is an invitation-only event for current and incoming Board of Directors and Counsel, Past Presidents and Past Counsel, Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs, Subcommittee Chairs and Committee Members. This year it will take place from November 12-16, 2013 in Miami Beach, USA.

Dr Mohan Dewan (Emerging Issues Committee) will be representing RKD at this event.

The Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing intellectual property protection in the Asian region (including Australia and New Zealand). APAA’s 62nd Council Meeting took place this year from 19-22 October in Hanoi, Vietnam. This event provided the opportunity to meet clients, associates and colleagues and be updated on the latest trends in IPR relating to Asia. RKD was represented by Dr Niti Dewan, who is also serving on the APAA Patents Committee for 2013-2015.

The AIPPI Forum & ExCo took place in Helsinki from September 5-11, 2013. Dr Mohan Dewan & Dr Niti Dewan attended the same in order to meet with clients and associates from around the world.

Dr Mohan Dewan was invited to conduct a pre-conference workshop titled ‘Timing is Everything in Pharma Patents – From Research & Development to Product Launch and Beyond’ at C5’s 12th International Forum on Maximising Pharma Patent in London in June 2013. He also delivered a talk titled ‘Unique Aspects of Indian Patents Law: Landmark Patent Cases’ at the same conference which was very well received by the audience

The 135th INTA Annual Meeting was held on May 4-8, 2013 at Dallas, Texas, USA. One of the world’s largest and most attended Trademark events, this conference offers endless opportunities for education and networking.

Dr Niti Dewan attended the Annual Asian ITechLaw Conference Bangalore on 14-15 February in Bangalore. RKD associates were also present.

Dr Niti Dewan was part of the organizing committee for the INTA India Forum held on February 08-09 at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai. Dr Niti spoke on ‘Differences in Trademark Practice Between India and Other Countries’ and also moderated a session on ‘Customs Recordal of Rights and Post Clearance Audits.’ Ms Disha Dewan also represented RKD at the India Forum.

Dr Mohan Dewan was invited to speak at the 2013 Pharma & Biotech Litigation Forum which took place on 29-30 January, 2013 at Hotel Radisson Blu in Amsterdam. He presented a session on ‘Patent Litigation Strategies for Key Emerging Markets: India.’

The Global IP Convention was held from 23-30 January 2013 at Hotel Lalit Ashok in Bangalore. The theme of the convention was ‘IPR – The Powerhouse of Tomorrow.’ Dr Mohan Dewan presented a session on ‘Managing Design Protection and Enforcement in India’ on 24th January 2013.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in collaboration with the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), organized a 2-day workshop on ‘IPR issues of Cyberspace’ on 19-20 November and 22-23 November, 2012 in New Delhi and Hyderabad respectively. Dr Mohan Dewan addressed a session on ‘Patent Litigations in India’ at the workshop at Green Park Hotel in Hyderabad on 23 November 2012.

The Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing intellectual property protection in the Asian region (including Australia and New Zealand). APAA’s 60th and 61st Council Meetings and 16th General Assembly took place from 27-31 October, 2012 at The Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand. This event provided the opportunity to meet clients, associates and colleagues and be apprised on the latest trends in IPR relating to Asia. RKD was represented by Dr Niti Dewan and Ms Disha Dewan.

The 43rd World Intellectual Property Congress of AIPPI took place in Seoul from October 20-23, 2012. The Congress provided a forum for lively discussions on worldwide issues in the field of IP. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn of current and future legislative and judicial initiatives in major jurisdictions throughout the world. Dr Mohan Dewan & Dr Niti Dewan attended the Congress.

INTA’s 134th Annual Meeting was held at the Walter E. Convention Center in Washington DC, USA, from 5-9 May, 2012. One of the largest and most prestigious meetings of the international trademark community, the Annual Meeting hosts more than 9,000 participants from more than 140 countries for five days of Educational Programmes, Committee Meetings, Exhibits, Networking Opportunities and Social Events. Dr Mohan Dewan, Dr Niti Dewan & Mr Ameet Deshpande represented RKD at the conference.

The Society for Technology Management (STEM) Summit was held at Radisson Hotel, Pune, from December 7-9, 2011. It was an interactive event relating to IP management, licensing and technology transfer. Our firm was represented by Ms. Vidya Nair.

The INTA Leadership Meeting was held from 8-12 November, 2011 at Miami Beach, Florida, USA. RKD was represented by Dr Mohan Dewan at this invitation-only event.

The Certificate Program in IP Management was organized by Symbiosis Law College on the 10th and 11th of October 2011 for students of the Masters Degree Programme in Law (IPR certification course). Dr Mohan Dewan was the Chief Guest and addressed the students on the meaning, scope and importance of IP Management as well as the role of an IP professional. Other RKD representatives in attendance were Dr Niti Dewan, Ms Padmaja Khandge-Pathak, Mr Prashant Patankar and Mr Tushar Shrikhande

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Andhra Pradesh Technology Development and Promotion Center (APTDC) organized a National Conference on ‘Best Practices of Intellectual Property Management’ on 14-15 July, 2011 at Hotel Taj Deccan, Hyderabad, India. Dr Mohan Dewan and Dr Niti Dewan of R.K. Dewan & Co. attended the event.

The 133rd Annual Meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA) was held between May 14-18, 2011 at San Francisco, USA. This event was attended by Intellectual Property professionals from all over the world. RKD was represented at this event by Dr Mohan Dewan, Dr Niti Dewan and Advocate Ameet Deshpande.

Dr Mohan Dewan and Dr Niti Dewan, both members of AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) attended its 42nd International World Intellectual Property Congress held at Paris, France from 3-6 October 2010. The congress was attended by around 2000 AIPPI members from over a hundred countries.

The IPR General Awareness seminar was conducted at IJMA (Imitation Jewellery Manufacturer Association), Malad, Mumbai by RKD on 18th April, 2010. The seminar was conducted with the view to create IPR awareness and to deal with issues pertaining to the protection of IP Rights of jewellery manufacturers and retailers specifically focusing on Patents, Designs, TradeMarks and Copyrights. Advocate Padmaja Khandge-Pathak spoke about Trademarks and Copyrights and Ms Megha Anand covered Patents and Designs. The seminar was attended by 170 members and it was followed by a highly interactive Q&A session for an hour.

Dr Mohan Dewan and Dr Niti Dewan of RKD participated in the fifth annual European IP Law Summit, from 25-27 November 2009, which took place at the prestigious Fairmont Le Montreux Palace in Montreux, Switzerland.

Dr Mohan Dewan was Chief Guest at the National Law Festival hosted by the Baroda School of Legal Studies at the MS University of Baroda, Vadodara, India. The event was held from 2-4 October 2009, where Govt. Special Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam was one of the attendees.

The IPR General Awareness  Seminar was organized in the core industrial area of Nashik for Ambad Industries and Manufacturers Association (AIMA). The Seminar started on 4:30 p.m. and went till 8:30 p.m. 50 members participated in the event. The session was very informative and interactive.

At the seminar conducted for CODISSIA (Coimbatore District Small Industries Association), Advocate Nithya S and Advocate Balaji of RKD were interviewed by Mr Ramasubramanian K, Managing Editor of The Coimbatore Digest, in relation to IPR matters. The session was very interactive and well received by the 100-strong audience.
